SRI International’s Direct Technology Group to Demonstrate Aware™ Mobile Network and Integrated Video Environment Products at ASIS 2009

AwareMENLO PARK, CA—September 9, 2009—SRI International’s Direct Technology group will exhibit and demonstrate both the Aware™ Mobile Network and Integrated Video Environment (IVE) products in booth 4369 at the ASIS 2009 tradeshow for the security industry on Sept. 21 - 24, in Anaheim, California. The demonstrations will illustrate the importance of mobile network security solutions and integrated video in overcoming security issues and leading to significantly safer environments.

SRI will be joined in its booth by technology partner Steelbox, which develops IP media appliances that deliver comprehensive switching, distribution and recording of video and audio for unprecedented scalability and flexibility. SRI’s IVE product solves the problem of managing large-scale video surveillance systems and uses Steelbox’s media appliances to organize hundreds of video sources within a single, intuitive interface.

"We are keenly focused on meeting the security and productivity needs of our customers and identifying where our products can help advance their security strategies, while leveraging their existing investments," said Paul Callahan, SRI Direct Technology business operations manager. "At ASIS 2009, we look forward to demonstrating how our technologies will meet current requirements and future trends in the public safety and security industries."

Aware™ is an intuitive, standards-based command and control software application designed specifically for public safety needs. It can create its own network or be used with an existing network infrastructure. Designed to maximize the usage of legacy investments, Aware communicates directly with existing security camera and management infrastructures, and is the only solution that leverages these systems to existing equipment used by law enforcement.

The Web 2.0 interface includes several powerful features that enable public safety officials to view real time multi-cast video, visualize information using interactive street map views with GPS, gain one-click access to web-based applications, and collaborate via instant messaging and benefit from whiteboard-style data sharing. Police departments in Lakewood, New Jersey and Atherton, California are actively using the technology. In addition, several other police departments are currently conducting trial deployments.

"What the Steelbox architecture offers is an open standards-based approach to rapid and efficient integration of our products with those of our partners. This is in addition to the technological advantages our media switching and recording platforms bring to the equation," said Steelbox Director of Business Development, Rob Clouse. "Working with dynamic technology partners like SRI International allows Steelbox to become an integral piece of a best-of-breed solution which addresses very unique vertical applications in their target markets."

Originally developed for the military and tailored for public safety and security professionals, IVE is an IP-based video and multi-source sensor platform that solves the problem of large-scale video management by allowing camera feeds to be accessed through a realistic, 3D display of the surveillance area. Optimized for deployment with SRI’s Aware system, IVE and Aware can be integrated to create a customized, command and control system.

About SRI International
Silicon Valley-based SRI International is one of the world's leading independent research and technology development organizations. SRI, which was founded by Stanford University as Stanford Research Institute in 1946 and became independent in 1970, has been meeting the strategic needs of clients and partners for more than 60 years. Perhaps best known for its invention of the computer mouse and interactive computing, SRI has also been responsible for major advances in networking and communications, robotics, drug discovery and development, advanced materials, atmospheric research, education research, economic development, national security, and more. The nonprofit institute performs sponsored research and development for government agencies, businesses, and foundations. SRI also licenses its technologies, forms strategic alliances, and creates spin-off companies. In 2008, SRI's consolidated revenues, including its wholly owned for-profit subsidiary, Sarnoff Corporation, were approximately $490 million.

About SRI’s Direct Technology Group
In January 2008, SRI International created the Direct Technology group to bring products directly to the commercial marketplace. Leveraging SRI’s interdisciplinary expertise and legacy of innovation, the SRI Direct Technology group provides an exciting new opportunity to extend product offerings to a larger community.
