Fuel Cell and Semifuel Cell Systems
Fuel cell work in the Materials and Processes Laboratory focuses on the design, construction and testing of medium- and high-temperature fuel cells and semi-fuel cells, reformation systems and components. These include, for example, solid state cells which employ both single and bi-layer electrolytes; molten carbonate; phosphoric acid; zinc-halogen and silicon-air systems. Emphasis is placed on the development of integrated (fuel-reformer-fuel cell) systems, and issues related to mitigation of materials degradation.
